Your clock is your health, it only ticks down fast when it's your turn!

Cards Down is a fast fantasy card duel against  AI opponents. Both players start with 45 seconds, whoever runs out first, loses - every second you spend deciding is a second of life you're losing.

How to play:

The round leader plays any card, the other side must answer with a strictly lower card or pass, and pay ten seconds for the privilege. Every card you play can heal your clock or drain theirs.
Each suit has its own effects:

  • Spades - double damage, no healing.
  • Hearts - double healing, no damage.
  • Diamonds - a balanced hit, plus a bonus shield that soaks incoming damage.
  • Clubs - steady damage and healing in equal measure.
  • Jokers - wild. Playable any time, ignoring the descending rule entirely. One de-buffs your opponent, one empowers you.

Seven champions

Pick your fighter, each with their own unique bonus ability.

Controls

Drag a card onto the pile to play it. Q fires your ability, Esc opens settings (and pauses the game).

Nicely done! Cool concept and well executed for a jam.

Really nicely done, a cool concept for a card game that your health is the timer you have! Very well done :)

Could you give me some tips on how to play the game? It is super confusing for me.

The main aim of the game is to reduce your opponents clock to 0 while stopping yours from hitting Zero, to do that you need to use a mixture of the suits.  If you're on decent health and the enemy is on low health playing Spades (double damage but no time restored to you) is your main attack, low on time? then use a Heart card to buy you more or a Diamond to give yourself a bonus shield if you know you're gonna take a hit next turn.

The different classes each also have their own abilities on a cooldown so Knight is probably a good beginner class as you get a bonus shield regularly.
